About Us

Studebaker Elementary School, home of the “Superstars,” is located in the city of Norwalk in the County of Los Angeles.  The school opened in 1954 and is one of nine schools in the Little Lake City School District. Studebaker has a total TK-5 population of 407 students.  Studebaker students receive the benefit of a strong, cohesive teaching staff, as 75% of our teachers have been at Studebaker for more than 15 years. In fact, our current principal is a former 5th grade Studebaker teacher. Our school is set on a tree-lined cul-de-sac in a neighborhood in which many of our students’ parents and grandparents also attended Studebaker as children. At the school gate each morning the principal and staff greet students and parents by name.  Each day begins with the flag salute, Studebaker Code of Conduct, and morning announcements.  Providing our students a diverse range of learning opportunities is a Studebaker strength.  Studebaker 5th graders attend Outdoor Science School each year, spending a week exploring nature and science in a rich experiential program. All students are exposed to art lessons and art history through our Meet the Masters program, Music Center assemblies, and regular Arts for All classes (PE, Music, and Art). A strong sense of community is fostered by regular literacy activities such as Winter Wonderland, Halloween Parade, Trunk or Treat, and Read Across America.

Through the years Studebaker has developed key strategies to address the student achievement gap. Data Reflection Sessions (DRS) and Innovative Learning Collaboratives (ILC) have provided teachers with regular opportunities for reflection of student progress, alternate teaching strategies, and data analysis. Social/Emotional Learning programs such as “I Am Somebody” have been a Studebaker tradition. Studebaker was the first elementary school in our district to be recognized as a California Distinguished School (2004).  Studebaker's achievements of California Distinguished School (2004, 2008, 2020), California Gold Ribbon School (2016), Title 1 Achieving School (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), and California Business for Education Excellence Star Honor Roll (2009, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2023) are the direct results of our commitment to students.

Studebaker Elementary School embodies our mission statement “to provide our students with a challenging educational program in a safe student-centered environment,” which has been the driving force behind our accomplishments.
